URS, NYC
Appointed by URS Corp. New York City, Braidwood Associates has provided guidance throughout the model development of this large strategic model of the Bronx area of NYC which includes the Sheridan Expressway (I-895) and the Bruckner Expressway (I-278). In addition to the major expressways in the area local service roads and residential streets were also modeled as well as the internal road network within the Hunts Point Peninsula, the location of the existing food and meat markets.
The model, which was commissioned by New York State Department of Transport, was developed to assess the impact of moving the Fulton Street Fish Market from Manhattan Island to the Bronx in the vicinity of the existing food and meat markets. In addition to the study area being heavily congested road network, the proportion of truck traffic within the area is high making the calibration and validation of truck volumes an extremely important element of this study.
Braidwood Associates’ role within the project included training, model review, assistance with matrix development methodology and guidance in relation to calibration and validation.
